ABOUT THE ALBERTI GALLERY

The Alberti Gallery specialises in Contemporary Russian and East European Art. Most of our artists are graduates of outstanding schools of art in their native countries. Typical of these schools is the Repin Academy established by Catherine the Great in St Petersburg 200 years ago. There the skills of icon restoration and the techniques of the Renaissance Masters are taught to the students who then bring this mastery to their own contemporary work. During the Soviet period the state authorities restricted the subject matter and style of painting to  'social realism'. This has now been replaced with a dynamic fresh approach by these artists who are seeking to establish their own style often by searching for their own roots.

Most of our artists work in their native countries and bring their paintings and art-work to us in London several times a year. We then arrange Exhibitions and take part in Art Fairs both in London and the USA. The work ranges from small watercolours and pen drawings through to large monumental oil paintings on canvas. Recently two of our artists, Olga Suvorova and Oleg Bogomolov, have been producing magnificent wooden screens showing the traditional court of Catherine the Great richly ornamated with gold leaf. When visiting London our artists often accept portrait commissions and recently a popular choice has been to represent the whole family on a traditional wooden screen garbed in stylish court dress.

All enquiries are dealt with personally by Tim Bruce-Dick who founded the Alberti Gallery in 1990. We welcome all art lovers who wish to know more about these wonderful artists.
